The new school year is just days away, which means countless prepared lunches, organized(ish) schedules for the family, and a little thing called “routine”. Kids love to get dirty (love those little rugrats!). But you don’t have to be dirty with your health and wellness intentions. As the kids head back-to-school, here are some small adjustments you can make to keep you and your family on track. BDirty Co. has sourced some great ways to make this school year the most successful one yet.

The World of Wellness – Be Dirty Style!

As the kids begin to fill up your evenings with endless homework questions, sporting events, and last minute “must-haves by tomorrow” making wholesome and easy lunches can often end up with the typical PB&J and some gold fish crackers.

That’s why we were so excited to find these double-duty meal ideas on goop.com, Each recipe has nearly the same ingredients. One is catered to kids and the other is catered to us! That takes the stress right out of meal planning!

Be Dirty Self-Care Rituals

It can feel selfish to take time to yourself when there are so many things to do, and so many people depending on you. However, teaching your children the lesson of self-care can be rewarding in itself.

We love the idea of blocking out a couple of hours during the week to make a date with yourself. Self-Care TIP: Write it in your family calendar so that everyone knows that you have plans that cannot be cancelled.

Here are a few ideas that we have already started committing to:

  • A yoga class at your local YYOGA! Try a class on your lunch break or after you drop the kids off at school. Don’t forget to tuck your favourite BDirty Deodorant in your yoga bag for after class! Find your nearest studio here.
  • Take an evening walk around your neighborhood
  • Join a workshop or class that interests you. You’d be surprised how many workshops are available these days!
  • Grab a tea at your favorite cafe and journal. We love this journal that takes the guesswork out of what to write about:
  • Pick up that book that has been waiting to be read for months, and escape into the pages

Eco Friendly Choices Made Easy

It’s no secret that bees are true miracle workers. It’s why we are passionate in providing bountiful plants, flowers and herbs on the Farmstead for honey bees.  So when we discovered Abeego food wraps made from a blend of beeswax, cotton and hemp we were buzzing with excitement!

Abeego, is a Canadian and eco-friendly brand. They are leading the industry with beautiful reusable food wraps to safely preserve food without the waste (and harm) of plastics. As real food naturally needs to breath, Toni, the founder and creator of Abeego, created this amazing product. Abeego Wraps allows food to get the proper release of oxygen to prevent the wilting and molding of your fresh foods.

Grab these for your back-to-school lunch packing and ditch the plastic wrap.

Farmstead Plant of the Month

Apples are not only the perfect snack as you run out the door, but they are extremely rich in important antioxidantsflavanoids, and dietary fiber. The phytonutrients and antioxidants in apples may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. This article provides a great nutritional profile of apples and their health benefits.

Royal Galas are one of our favourites, so it’s no surprise they made this top list . Because this variety is sweet, it’s a great fresh snack. Nice and crispy; it’s a kid’s back-to-school lunchbox favourite! What’s your favourite apple varietal?

Once our Orchard Fencing and Wildlife Corridor Preservation Project completes (stay tuned for progress updates on the B Dirty Co. website!), we will plant this yummy variety not only to snack on but to use in our organic skincare line.

Here’s to a healthy and happy 2017-2018 school year!
