Hello there, beautiful Spring! We’ve been awaiting your arrival. So much so that we are buzzing with excitement to start our non-toxic & eco-friendly natural spring cleaning on the Farmstead. We’re busy cleaning up from the snowy Winter months, starting seeds for our veggie gardens, and making batches of our handmade natural deodorant in anticipation of warmers days to come. AND we also have some fantastic non-toxic & eco-friendly spring cleaning tips to share with you! Whether you are looking for natural spring cleaning options for your diet, home or skincare. We’ve got you covered at BDirty Co.

1. Spring Cleaning Your Plate

Spring is the season that brings overwintered full-bodied kale, vibrant red radishes, and fiber-rich spinach straight from the farm to table. Fill your plate with an abundance of organic produce.  Shop produce from local farmers straight off the farm or a nearby market to ensure the least amount of pesticides and guaranteed freshness. If you’re in British Columbia, check out this site of local markets and seasonal spring produce!

To ensure that your fruit and veg are free of any pesticide residue go organic, or make your own produce spray. With less than 4 ingredients that you probably already have on hand, there’s no need to use the store-bought ones. These sprays are just as easy to make (and so much cleaner). Epicurious has a great list of 5 different ways to make sprays here.

2. Spring Cleaning Your Skin

It’s not you that needs a facelift, it’s our toxic beauty industry.   The personal and environmental safety and standards of this billion dollar beauty industry are not as clean as one would like. It can be extremely overwhelming knowing what’s “okay” or just plain harmful, so do your best and go natural where you can.  Stay away from conventional products such as:

  1. Hair Dyes
  2. Baby Shampoos
  3. Fragrances
  4. Nail Polish
  5. Talc-Based Powders
  6. Conventional Deodorants (ok, we may be biased but BDirty Co is a great natural deodorant alternative!)
  7. Bubble Baths
  8. Face Primers
  9. Baby Wipes

3. Spring Cleaning Your Home

Waking up to the sun beaming through your windows as it springs natural light all around your home is the best feeling, wouldn’t you agree? Then, there is that total mood-buster of seeing just how filthy your windows really are. Eeeek!

Skip the spray bottle filled with the bright blue toxic liquid, where the only “perk” of this spray is that it doesn’t leave streaks. There’s no mention on the label of the asthma and respiratory concerns. Nor the environmental concern that these conventional window cleaners hold. Never fear! Here, on the Farmstead in the Slocan Valley of BC where we do our best to live an eco-friendly non-toxic lifestyle, know that there’s a much cleaner way to rid your windows of smudges and streaks during your natural spring cleaning.

Try making this easy peasy spray with 2 clean ingredients and you too can have a non-toxic, eco-friendly window cleaning spray that is inexpensive and not harmful to your family.
